Moore Haven Lock to remain closed until Sept. 14

1 min read

Due to unforeseen complications associated with repairs to the Moore Haven Lock sector gates, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, will keep the lock located on Lake Okeechobee closed until Sept. 14.

Initially, the re-opening of the lock was scheduled for Sept. 3. The lock has been closed for repairs since June 1 and crossing the state via the Okeechobee Waterway has not been possible.

The repair to the lock is a $3.5 million, regularly-scheduled project, conducted once every 10 years. The work includes upgrading navigational safety equipment, improving manatee protection screen systems and painting and sand blasting lock gates.
