Mack statement before President Obama’s address to congress

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) issued the following statement today in advance of President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress this evening.

Mack said:

“While I’m looking forward to hearing the President’s address tonight, I’m not optimistic that the Administration or the Democrat-led Congress will scrap a government-run health care system and look to preserving the patient-doctor relationship and incorporating free market ideas, like tax incentives and tort reform, to improve our health care system.

“Earlier this morning, the White House Press Secretary said that President Obama will “talk tonight about the public option and about the necessity for choice and competition.”

“His words are truly ironic, since you can’t have choice or competition with a public option, as a government-run plan will crowd out the private insurance market.

“The American people have spoken loud and clear. They are opposed to a government-run health care system. The sooner President Obama and liberals can understand that, the sooner we can reform our health care system.”
