Mack: Freedom and free markets are the foundation of greater economic prosperity

2 min read

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) today said that one year after the nation’s financial “meltdown,” President Obama and the Democratic Leadership in Congress still haven’t learned that countless bailouts, trillions of dollars in unchecked spending, and more government regulation are not the answer to our economic problems.

Mack said:

“The Obama Administration has picked up where the Bush Administration has left off. In the past year, the Bush/Obama bailouts, stimulus programs and government handouts have done more to mortgage our future than we’ve witnessed in decades. Both Administrations bear responsibility, but the Obama Administration and the Democrats in Congress have completely abandoned free market principles.

“They continue to mistakenly believe that spending trillions of dollars of taxpayer money, ballooning our budget deficit, and increasing government regulation in our private lives will spur economic growth. They couldn’t be more wrong.

“Not since the New Deal have we witnessed such a breathtakingly liberal power grab. The federal government, under the Democrats’ leadership, has centralized power in Washington by taking over large swaths of our economy.

“From banks to car companies, and now Americans’ health care, the Democrats are picking winners and losers in our economy.

“The Democrats’ economic plans will saddle our economy with a future of bigger government, slower economic growth, and less freedom.

“Instead of endless bailouts and non-stop spending, we must return to the principles of less taxing, less spending, less government, and more freedom. That is the path to greater prosperity and economic security for the American people.”
