Mack: Chavez on whirlwind tour of terrorist nations
Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), the Ranking Republican on the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, blasted Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi today for celebrating the 40th anniversary of Gaddafi’s presidency.
Mack said:
“Hugo Chavez is embarking on a whirlwind tour of state-sponsors of terrorism this month, visiting a who’s who of terrorist nations such as Libya and Iran, and strengthening his ties with enemies of freedom.
“Chavez’s trip to Libya comes as no surprise. From his relationships with terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and the FARC, to his cozy friendship with Iranian strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and now Muammar Gaddafi, a known and self-admitted terrorist, Chavez has made it clear that he is a threat to Latin America and the entire Western Hemisphere.
“Chavez’s visit to Libya follows the hero’s welcome that the Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, received when he was freed by Scotland and returned to Libya last month.
“The United States must stand firm against Chavez and other enemies of freedom. We can start by adding Venezuela to the list of state sponsors of terrorism. I call on the President to do just that.”
