Local spa holds food bank benefit
Southwest Florida residents are hungry. And, Planet Beach Contempo Spa plans utilize its biggest promotional event to help.
Fort Myers’ Planet Beach at 6631 Orion Dr. (corner of Daniels and Plantation) will host a preliminary contest for the annual Ms. Planet Beach International competition, the World’s largest Spokes Model Search. The winner advances with an all-expense paid trip to the World finals in Reno, Nev. to compete for $100,000, a waived $30,000 franchise fee to open her own Planet Beach Spa, and will serve as the global company’s official spokesperson and goodwill ambassador.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept., 27, Ms. Planet Beach Ft. Myers will be crowned at The Edison Resturant at 3583 McGregor Blvd. Throughout the afternoon and evening, ticket holders will enjoy complimentary food, drinks, and live entertainment from The Banned 4 and Strange Arrangements. Local businesses have donated prizes to be given during a silent auction and numerous raffles.
The $20 tickets will benefit the local SWFL Harry Chain Food Bank. Applications for food stamps are up an astonishing 150 percent in the past two years, and more than 50,000 Lee County students are on free or reduced lunch programs. In the May 2009 Harry Chapin newsletter, CEO, Al Brislain, says, “We’re really helping, but we’re not doing enough.” The need for food jumped 82 percent, but donations increased only 32 percent.
With over 350 locations worldwide and over one million clients in the United States, Canada and Australia, Planet Beach is the fastest growing contempo spa franchise in the world. Its unique and automated services are focused on personal growth, mental, and physical wellness. Members rotate from room to room relaxing with services such as a vitamin-infused steam bath, a hydro massage, or a session at the oxygen bar. The medical grade services are offered at a fraction of the cost than a regular day spa.
