Florida license fees rise in September
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles have raised fees for renewals and transactions starting today.
For example, the cost to renew a driver’s license will increase from $20 to $48, while a tax collector service fee on all license transactions will go from $5.25 to $6.25.
There are also larger increase to report like the new vehicle registration fee from $100 to $225. That price shift does not include increases to the cost of license tags and titles.
The fee increases were part of the state’s $66.5 billion budget passed by legislators in April.
According to Ann Nucatola, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, many of the fees haven’t changed in 20 years or more.
In Lee County, the tax collector’s office has signs posted to tell customer of the pending increases. While the tax collector’s offices will charge current fees through August, the county’s online site is temporarily unavailable while it is being converted to the new fees. Registrations can be renewed up to 90 days before they are due.
