Art Under the Stars: An Evening of Music and Fine Art
Art lovers on Fort Myers Beach will be thrilled to know that the Friends of the Mound House is hosting Art Under the Stars, on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Mango Street Inn on 126 Mango Street.
Muralist Sheila Elsea is the featured artist but guests will have the opportunity to bid both on and purchase an array of paintings, prints, jewelry and wearable art from Lee County artists. Guests will have the opportunity to sample fine wines, imported beers, and an array of cheeses.
The ticket price of $20 for members and $25 for non-members includes one complimentary wine or beer and light food. Please call Ms. Ceel Sphuler at 765-6472 in order to make your reservation and purchase your tickets.
Featured artist
The Friends of the Mound House were thrilled when muralist Sheila Elsea consented to be the feature artist for their upcoming fund raiser, Art Under the Stars. But not as thrilled as the artist herself.
“There is a lot of artistic talent on the beach that I think people are largely unaware of,” she says. “An event such as this that is open and fun, and that brings artists and the public together is not only exciting; it’s important. Art bonds a community and expands our definition of who we are.”
Elsea, who was trained by her mother -a fine oil painter- describes herself as having been “born with a paint brush in her hand.”
She offers this advice to those attending Art Under the Stars: “Look for something that moves you, rather than something to simply match your sofa or decor. Don’t be afraid to interact with the artists and ask questions.”
Although Sheila Elsea is the feature artist, a number of other artists are participating. Babs Synderman of Babs Bead Warehouse is curating the show. There will be a silent auction of a variety of paintings, jewelry and wearable art as well as the opportunity for further purchase.
