Mack statement on American Journalists held in North Korea
Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), the Ranking Republican of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, issued the following statement this afternoon after news reports indicated that two American journalists held by the North Korean government since March have been pardoned and will be released.
Mack said:
“I congratulate former President Bill Clinton and the Obama Administration for their efforts to bring home two Americans, Euna Lee and Laura Ling, who have been held by Kim Jong Il’s ruthless dictatorship. America is grateful that two of its citizens will once again live in freedom, free from North Korea’s brutal and oppressive iron fist.
“While I usually disagree with the Administration’s approach to foreign policy, the Administration is to be commended for its efforts to ensure that these two Americans are free.
“This incident is another reminder of why the United States is a beacon of liberty. Freedom matters.”
