Beach methodist church invite women to hear love stories

2 min read

All Women are invited to come to Fellowship Hall in the Beach United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, to hear stories of love as interpreted by three members who will share their experiences related to the summer classes they attended at the Florida Conference School of Christian Mission at Florida Southern College. All women, not just United Methodists, are welcome to attend.

Lisa Grinter, president of the Beach Unit of United Methodist Women, will give highlights of the study “Food and Faith” which she attended. Lisa will include a slide commentary on Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal Vegetable Miracle. In reviewing this book, Monitor book editor, Marjorie Kehe, wrote, “But perhaps the most appealing thing about this book is the love that holds its disparate parts together: love of family, love of good food, love of the planet, and the willingness to expend extra effort to safeguard these treasures.”

Nancy McDowell, a new member and a first time attendee at the School of Christian Mission, will bring vignettes from the sessions on Native American Survival. Nancy, who was able to share her love for the native American flute with her class at the school, will bring her flute to the September 3 meeting.

Likewise, Mildred Howarter, will share briefly from “The Beauty and Courage of Sudan,” the class which she attended. A highlight for Mildred was re-connecting with some Liberian students whom she had learned to love when she entertained them in her home while they were students at Bethune-Cookman College, now Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach.

Following the program, there will be a short business session. The meeting will adjourn no later than 11:30 a.m. To give or receive further information about this meeting or the ensuing meetings on Oct. 1, and Nov. 5, please phone Grinter at 481-2531 or Howarter at 437-9790.
