Taize service comes back to St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church
St. Raphael’s Church on Williams Drive in Fort Myers Beach brings back its Taize Healing Service on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m.
The Taize Healing Service is an ecumenical service of scripture readings, songs, and silent prayer. The purpose of the service is to bring reconciliation and healing.
The word “Taize” comes from the name of a small town in France where Brother Roger began his community of brothers after World War II.
Brother Roger’s dream was of a community of brothers from different Christian traditions living together in harmony. The community began with only a few men from both the Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions and has now increased to a hundred brothers from 25 different nations.
Sadly, Brother Roger was killed during an evening prayer service. The man, who lived a life of peace, left us with these beautiful words, “When the Church listens, heals, reconciles, then she becomes what she is in her most radiant aspect: a crystal-clear reflection of love.”
All are invited to join at St. Raphael’s in seeking the same Spirit of Peace for which Brother Roger chose to live.
