Beach Fire District committee wants public input

2 min read

Have you ever wondered why you see a fire truck and an ambulance at the same call? Or why you see a fire truck parked at a local grocery store with firefighters inside shopping?

The answers to those questions and just about anything else you ever wanted to know about your local fire department are as easy as asking, according to Public Information Officer Ramon Looby.

“The idea was that since there has not been a tradition of wide open communications between the fire department and Beach residents we thought a group of firefighters could field questions from the public – through a public medium,” Looby said.

The Ask a Firefighter committee comprises five member: Lt. J.P. Duncan, Lt. Dave Reno, Firefighter Daniel Miller, Firefighter Jennifer Gordon and Firefighter Joe Devito. The two line officers and three firefighters have volunteered to serve on the committee and will meet for the first time next month, Looby said.

“I think it’s a great idea and I’m excited about it,” he said.

Looby said for the most part, no questions will be out of bounds.

“We’re looking for intelligent questions about the fire department,” he said.

Answers to your questions about the Beach Fire Department will be published in the Beach Observer. To submit questions, e-mail cloucks@breezenewspapers.com; fax them to 765-0846 or mail them to Fort Myers Beach Observer, 19260 San Carlos Blvd., Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931.
