HO, HO, HO

Bay Oaks Recreation Center will be holding its annual Holiday Family Fun Night Friday, Dec. 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $3 per person with children under one year free.

Join an evening of old fashioned family fun. Families can join in the holiday craft making. A bounce house and games will be open to all ages. Everyone is welcome to take part in the coloring contest with seasonal gifts awarded. Holiday treats, food and snacks will be available at a minimal cost.

Live entertainment will include youth caroling with Jolly Old St. Nick making his grand appearance at 7:30 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your camera! You can share in the Spirit of the Holidays by donating a new unwrapped gift or toy to support local families within the Fort Myers Beach Fire District.

Help for the holidays

Bay Oaks is teaming up with the Ft. Myers Beach Fire Department to help those in need. As part of “Help for the Holidays,” we are collecting canned goods for the local food pantry through Dec. 15.

Drop-off times and locations are:

Dec. 7 – Lynn Hall Park (950 Estero Blvd.)

Dec. 10 – Bay Oaks Recreation Center (2731 Oak St.)

Dec. 12 – Fire Station No. 31 (3043 Estero Blvd.)

Dec. 15 – Topps supermarket (2555 Estero Blvd.)

The goal is to completely fill an ambulance with canned goods. All types of non-perishable food donations are appreciated.

Bay Oaks Social Seniors

This 50 and older program is for seniors who have an interest in getting out and sharing their social time with others.

Seniors meet at the Bay Oaks Rec. Center, 2731 Oak St., for a variety of fun and activities throughout the month. If there are any guest speakers you would be interested in hearing, or any activities you would like to participate in please don’t hesitate to call Laurie, senior program coordinator at 707-1842 or email lasatali@leegov.com.

Seniors bridge

Social bridge from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Chapel by the Sea. Play beginners bridge on Tuesdays at Bay Oaks from 1 to 4 p.m. and Thursdays at Chapel by the Sea from 1 to 4 p.m. No partners needed. Call 707-1842.

Teen program

This free and fun program aims to offer assorted activities and alternatives for teens in middle and high school in a safe, fun, and friendly environment. Teens have exclusive use of the center on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 6 to 10 p.m.

Check the bulletin board for upcoming events ranging from sports leagues, contests, games, great field trips, of course lots of basketball, music, pool, ping pong and more. New ideas and suggestions are always welcome. All participants must fill out a membership card. Planning meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month.

Pickle ball

Pickle ball is an exciting game that combines the best of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Pickle ball will be played at 10 a.m. Tuesday mornings and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday nights. All skill levels welcome. For more, call Aaron at 765-4222

Volleyball

Come over to the rec center and enjoy two full-sized indoor volleyball courts. Pick up games available for all level players. This free activity is offered year round on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your own team!

Aerobics

Shape up with fitness instructor Sandy Spitzer in this high energy aerobics class. Open to all ages and skill levels. This class ranges from simple low impact moves to aerobic combinations utilizing the step aimed at developing cardiovascular conditioning. Workout includes floor exercises, abdominal and cool down. Most equipment included. Beginners and advanced students welcome. The cost is $41 per month or $8 per class.

Classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9to 10 a.m.

Note that December’s class will run from Dec. 8 through 31 and the price will be $35 for the month.

Open basketball

Lace up your hightops and enjoy our two full size indoor basketball courts. Shoot around or work on your game during open gym hours and then catch some of the hottest pick up games in town on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. year round.

Club Rec

Club Rec. is an after school program that Bay Oaks offers every year. It is a supervised program Monday thru Friday from 2:15 to 6 p.m.

Homework time is every day from 2:15 to 3:15 except on Fridays. Then the kids have a little free time to get snack or visit with friends before daily activities begin filled with games, crafts, sports, trips to the pool, clubs, library, and walks on the beach.

Club Rec is a two session program. The cost is $50 per session

Youth flag football

Register online at leeparks.org by Dec. 8.

Practices are scheduled for Dec. 9 and 12 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Season begins Dec. 16.

Cost is $50 per player, which includes a jersey and trophy.

Disc golf

Join in on the fun at the center’s challenging and scenic 18 hole disc golf course. Most holes were designed to appeal to first-time and beginning players but even experienced players will find many aspects of the course challenging and fun. Score cards and discs are available. Some holes are not available during school hours.

Volunteer

Bay Oaks is always accepting new applications for volunteering. No experience is needed. and the center offers an incentive program. Call Shay at the center for more details.

Hours

Bay Oaks is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays from 2 to 6 p.m.

Teen hours: Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday until 10 p.m.

Unless registered for a program, all facility users must be at least 13 years old. Those under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
