Art ideas for gifts
The Fort Myers Beach Art Association has some suggestions for those on your list with a yen to learn a bit about painting.
Workshops are offered for a week long exposure to a skilled instructor.
This winter, Mary Ann Beckwith, Linda Baker and Fred Dingler will be teaching various watercolor techniques. A certificate for paid enrollment would make a wonderful gift.
Or classes with Patty Kane every Monday to learn the basics of watercolor techniques for a season long gift. Prepay a membership to the art association itself for your artistic one and he or she can enjoy all the benefits of belonging for the entire year.
There are painting groups, demonstrations, art shows and sales, and of course the potlucks where artists meet to share their love of good food and fine art making.
For more information on the classes and the association, check out fortmyers

Another arty idea is to purchase a fine piece of original art done by a local artist, perhaps even of a local scene. Currently, a member show hangs in the gallery for perusal and purchase.
On Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the annual Holiday Sale, Art Divine, featureds works for under $99.
The show runs through Jan. 14.
This sale features well priced original art and the special “Mini-Master” fund-raiser – tiny paintings for $10.
The Fort Myers Beach Art Association is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
Visit the gallery on Donora and Shellmound, at the blinking light on Estero Boulevard.
For more information, call 463-3909.
The first judged show of the season is on display at Anthony’s on the Gulf. This fall show features works members created under the tutelage of Peter Spataro, who judged the show.
Three more workshops are planned for the season: Mary Ann Beckwith, Jan. 19 through 23; Linda Baker, Feb. 16 through 20; and Fred Dingler, March 24 through 28.
