Chocolattes finds home on San Carlos Boulevard
Some may remember Chocolattes Coffee & Roasting in many of the hospitals in the area. Having moved on from that to have a full-time brick and mortar store, the owners are ready for what’s coming up next – customers.
Co-owner Lisa Wilson, along with her husband Chris, decided they wanted their own space, and after being open for nearly a year, think they’ve found a home in the community.
“It was different, obviously. We went from kiosks to a full kitchen and our own roasting machines. It’s a lot to get things moving, but we want to share our flavors and new creations with as many people as we can,” Lisa said.
Having expanded into a small breakfast menu, focusing on crepes with a couple of on-toast items and some oatmeal options, the kitchen is always humming with that low din of excitement and you can smell the aroma of coffee from the door. With items raining from no-coffee “creamer” drinks that are a little more frappe, to honest Colombian dark roast, you’ll find something on their wide menu that you could get down with.
Everyone gets greeted as they enter and fondly wished farewell as they leave because Lisa wants to give people a sense of belonging, to forge a little bit of community in her part of the neighborhood.
“It’s great when people come in and want to hang out and spend time with us. This part of town doesn’t have much in the way of meeting spaces, so we have a lot of people come in to host small meetings, some people web conference here. We want people to think of this space as usable with drinks and food. It keeps people close to us and gives them a place to go,” Lisa said.
They’re looking into renting out their large meeting table for smaller get togethers, with a purchase minimum, but they already have a slew of regulars who may stop in to bring business clients or just to say “hi.”
“I love that people just want to come in and buy coffee and see how we are. There’s something heart warming about people checking up on you, it means you’ve done something,” Lisa said.
With their Family Fun Day coming up on Oct. 14, they have a lot to do. In cooperation with Painting With A Twist, they want people to bring out their children and experience their new slice of life and have fun doing it.
They’re planning on doing an anniversary celebration in November, but haven’t quite nailed down the dates, so keep up with their Facebook and stop on by.
