A survey conducted by Our Town America identified Fort Myers as a top moving destination for millennials in 2019.

Six hundred and fifty-two millennials, ages 22-38, participated in this survey which sought to find millennials’ motivations behind moving to particular cities.

Our Town America is a company that focuses on getting new movers familiar with their community, while helping the local businesses gain new and loyal customers.

According to Our Town America, the survey results that identified Fort Myers as a top moving destination for millennials include these factors that those surveyed deemed important in a new destination: 54.3% said good weather, 59.7% said good scenery, 44.8% said lots of job opportunities, 38.2% said good restaurants, 37.4% said a good social life, and 33% said a good night life.

The survey also revealed that 69% of respondents say they must live within range of delivery services and 57% say they must be able to walk to restaurants and stores from their home. Three in 5 millennials have pets, 70% of whom say their pet influences where they move.

Eighty percent of respondents voted against city life as their ideal living situation, preferring to live a short uber ride away or even further out in the suburbs.

“Fort Myers is fast growing with plenty of New Millennials coming here for a better way of life,” said Sally Hanson, the owner of Our Town America of Southwest Florida. “They seek good weather, good scenery, lots of job opportunities, and excellent social activities including restaurants and an active night life. 84.7% said they would take advantage of a gift certificate from a local business who welcomed them to the community and 97% said that it is probable they would revisit that business again.”

About 45 percent of millennials surveyed said that job opportunities in a city is one of the highest factors in choosing where to live. Fort Myers is growing – as is the job market.

The Fort Myers area was ranked No. 1 in the nation for growth in 2018, according to the U.S. News and World Report. In addition, it was ranked as the 35th best place to live in the U.S. in 2019 by the U.S. News and World Report.
