Singing and Sprucing — The Beached Whale unveils live music with new remodel
The folks of the Beached Whale have been very busy over the last several months in preparation of the incoming season. The entire building has gone through a full overhaul makeover, with remodeled additions and light-and-bright upgrades and updates. Just as the physical business has gone through a transformation, so has its previously non-existent entertainment line-up, with live music returning to the island hot spot beginning Wednesday, featuring solo and duo musical acts throughout the week.
“We reopened about a month ago, and we’ve had a really great response to all of our renovations and upgrades,” said Chris Canter, manager of the island eatery. “We’ve wanted to do this for years, and when we finally received approval from the town, we dove into the project.”
Patrons and drivers-by will notice the brand-new deck along the ground level of the establishment, along with many other additions.
“We’ve extended our patio downstairs and really opened it up, making it much lighter and brighter and when the weather cools down, we can open up the double-French doors to bring in even more light into the restaurant,” Chris said. “We also redid all of the tables and the floors, refinished the bar, built a new heavy duty handicap ramp, rebuilt the interior stairs that go up to the second floor, lots of great updates to give it a face-lift and brighten the place up with an updated-yet-rustic, beachy look.”
Chris said there are additional plans owners would like to make to the establishment in the future, such as extend the upstairs deck, with the new lower deck strictly built to code to support an upper deck, should they decide to add one later on.
“We still have a phenomenal menu, featuring our signature beach bread, mussels and Yucatan shrimp,” Chris said. “And we have happy hour from 2 to 5, Monday to Friday, with discounted wings, mussels and flatbread, and 99-cent domestic drafts. Saturday and Sunday are our Football days, with additional specials.”
Live music returns to the Whale Wednesday with the sounds of Roger Young, and guests can look forward to additional music Friday and Saturday nights, as well.
“We’ve always wanted to have live music, and so happy to bring it back,” said Allie Young, manager. “We’ll primarily have solo acts and duos performing on the front porch Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 7 to 10 p.m., and continue adding to the schedule as we move further into season.”
As any previous live music performance at the Whale, there’s never a cover charge to attend a show, and the new remodel just adds to the fun feel of the recent musical additions.
“Our November schedule is already full of great local musicians, including Jimi Dred, Jory Lyle, Sean Bright our resident Dave Matthews guy Tyler Kluesner, Steve McDougall, Rob Matson and Roger Young, but if any solo or duo acts are interested in getting in touch with me to perform here at a later date, definitely feel free to give us a call. We are so very excited about all of the renovations it’s been a long time coming and we couldn’t be happier. We are really looking forward to rocking this season!”
