Local Vet’s Club brings Christmas in July to Children’s Hospital

Celebrating their first Christmas in July Toy Drive for the children of Southwest Florida, the folks of the Veteran’s Club of America Post #1 (lovingly known as the Li’L Club) are excited to get the show on the road Wednesday, July 29, as they sprinkle some Christmas cheer over the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Karen Glover, bar maid of the Vet’s Club for the last 2.5 years, explains how the charitable event began.
“We just started doing this. Usually we have a Christmas in July party and get each other gifts, and this year, we decided that we shouldn’t get each other gifts, but rather get gifts for the children at the Children’s Hospital instead. And so far, we have two big boxes full of toys, with more things continually coming in,” she said.
Li’l Club members have been stocking the boxes with toys and items the hospital requests for the last several days, including books, video games, action heroes, characters from the movie Frozen, stuffed animals, and of course, Minions.
“A couple of girls are dressing up like elves when we take the toys to the hospital Wednesday afternoon,” Karen said. “We had such a great turnout during our Christmas in July party Saturday that we are going to do this every year now for the children.”
