Lee County Sheriff’s Office receives multiple awards
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple awards in the last two weeks for their excellent performance in the Law Enforcement Challenge and school safety.
The Law Enforcement Challenge, which rewards the best overall traffic safety program in the State of Florida, is held annually and took place this year in Orlando from July 18-19.
This year, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit received first and second place honors and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit placed 12th overall.
To take part in the challenge, departments submit an application that documents their agency’s efforts and effectiveness in areas such as speeding, impaired driving, among others.
The School Safety Advocacy Council, which is also held annually, took place this year in Las Vegas from July 22-26.
This year, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Unit received the Exemplary School Safety Award. Major Kathy Rairden was present to receive the award.
The School Safety Advocacy Council was established as a collaborative partnership between education, law enforcement and emergency first responders. The council’s primary focus remains the conducting of school safety assessments, school safety drills and exercises, as well as the delivery of training to school personnel and law enforcement.
The SSAC Staff and Advisory Board is made up of nationally recognized law enforcement executives, school administration and school safety professionals. Representatives at the conference were from 46 states, Canada and the Netherlands.
