Good ol’ family fun: Pet Adoption benefit at Nervous Nellie’s Saturday
Founders and volunteers of a local pet rescue
organization are excited to announce the first of
a hopefully annual all-day fund-raiser for the
Find a Home, Give a Home pet adoption group,
Saturday, April 6, from noon to 7 p.m., hosted by
Nervous Nellie’s Waterfront Eatery, 1131 1st St.
Isabelle Wells, co-founder of the local, non-profit pet
rescue group, along with Pam Schwartz, is excited to welcome
the public to their first big benefit.
“We are so excited to be having our
first big benefit at Nervous Nellie’s
April 6, to benefit the Fort Myers
Beach homeless pets,” she said.
“There is no admission, and it’s fun for
the whole family!”
During the benefit, enjoy live
music, face-painters, clowns,
pirates, magic and illusion acts,
raffles, 50/50s, and more plus
get to meet great dogs, cats,
puppies and kittens available
for affordable adoption
with the group, as
well as the many volunteers that help with
the rescue. And be sure to bring your furry
four-legged pals to compete in the pet costume
contest by the fountain.
Live music will be heard from Estero’s
Southern Classic Rock Band and the Rebel
Monkeys, along with some good ol’ contemporary
classic rock from the group In Recess, with
guest singer SandySkies.
The schedule that day is as follows:
Noon: Pet costume contest around the fountain. Be sure
to bring your furry and feathered friends and win a prize.
1 p.m.: The Amazing Kyle Storm will take
the stage with his amazing levitation act
(great for children), with a second evening
show. Enjoy the wandering pirates, facepainters,
colorful balloon animal creature creators
and the wonderful card-bending
Magic Frank, with an evening show, as
well.
“We will be handing out free
giveaways throughout the benefit,
as well as offering 50/50s, a
revolving raffle with prizes
given out all day, and a silent
auction,” Isabelle said. “Prizes range from
half-day fishing trips, hotel stays and spa
treatments to gift certificates from local
restaurants, great gift baskets full of wonderful prizes, jewelry,
artwork and much more.”
Isabelle also said the Find a Home, Give a Home Pet
Rescue organization will be offering super adoption deals
that day, and all are tax-deductible, with 100 percent of the
contributions going toward helping with care of the animals,
including veterinarian costs, professional training,
food, daily care, etc.
“We want to give a big thank-you to Rob DeGennaro and
the staff of Nervous Nellie’s, our silent auction and raffle
prize donors, to all the volunteers and artists, Vanessa at
Wink TV, Lindsay Downey at the News Press and Melissa
Schneider at the Beach Bulletin for supporting us since the
beginning,” Isabelle kindly stated. “Please come out and
have fun with us Saturday, April 6, at Nervous Nellie’s.
Aside from having a great time, you might just meet your
next four-legged best friend. If, for whatever reason, you
can’t make it to the event, please Share our Facebook event
with your friends and spread the word about this great benefit
for a great cause.”
About Find a Home, Give a Home
The Find a Home, Give a Home Pet Rescue Organization
is a 501-c3 non-profit group dedicated to rescuing lost or
abandoned animals found around the Fort Myers Beach
area. What began as a small group, fronted by two island
Realtors who handled it in their spare time has blossomed
into a fantastic organization that has found homes (both
adopted and returned to their rightful owners) for hundreds
of animals since its inception just a couple of years ago.
Several island businesses regularly contribute to the
group whether they’re hosting a benefit for them, donating
gifts for the many raffles, offering services to the volunteers
while they’re holding fund-raisers in the hot sun, or all
of the above.
If interested in becoming a volunteer, to find out how you
can help the local group, or to see a list of pets currently
available for adoption, feel free to visit
FindAHomeGiveAHome.com or call Isabelle, 281-0739.
Also, be sure to flip back to page 18 for the foundation’s
weekly Pet Pals column in this issue of the Beach Bulletin,
highlighting a few of the many pets available for adoption
through the foundation.
