Lee parks deputy director to speak at MPP meeting
Dana Kasler, the deputy director of the Lee County Parks & Recreation department, will be the guest speaker at the Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve general meeting at the Fort Myers Beach Library (2755 Estero Blvd) on Tuesday, Feb.12. This meeting is open to the public and will be held at 4:30 p.m. (Kasler will begin to speak about 5).
The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve is a not-for profit organization created in 1996 in order to support Matanzas Pass Preserve becoming part of Lee County Parks and Recreation. Over the years many joint projects have led to the continued preservation of our island treasure. The Preserve represents the way most of the island looked in the past and we can enjoy that today.
As deputy director, Kasler oversees 250 positions, a $26 million budget and more than 29,400 acres of parks, preserves, facilities and other sites. The department manages recreation centers, community parks, Conservation 20/20 lands, greenways, the Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins spring training facilities and pristine Gulf-of-Mexico beach parks.
Kasler began as deputy director on Nov 15, 2012 and came from a position as parks and recreation director at Moon Township, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh. He holds Masters of Science and B.S. degrees in Recreation from Ohio University.
