New deputy director joins Lee County Parks & Recreation

KEN MILLS Dana Kasler is the new deputy director for the Lee County Parks & Recreation.

Lee County Parks & Recreation has welcomed A. Dana Kasler as its new deputy director. Together with Director Dave Harner, Kasler will oversee 250 positions, a $26 million budget and more than 31,500 acres of parks, preserves, facilities and other sites. The department manages recreation centers, community parks, Conservation 20/20 lands, greenways, the Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins spring training facilities and pristine Gulf-of-Mexico beach parks.

Kasler, who started work Thursday, Nov. 15, came from a position as parks and recreation director at Moon Township, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh, where he handled parks properties owned by the township, community special events, programming, grant writing and sponsorships. He holds a master’s of science and B.S. degrees in Recreation from Ohio University. Prior jobs include posts in Ponte Verde Beach and Kingsland, Ga., as well as in Athens, Ohio.
