Breeze to host blood drive

2 min read

The Cape Coral Breeze Newspaper will be hosting a bloodmobile drive with the Lee Memorial Blood Center on Friday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the Lee Memorial Health System, donated blood goes to help save the lives of patients at your community-owned hospitals: Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center, The Children’s Hospital of SW Florida, Gulf Coast Medical Center and Cape Coral Hospital. In addition to the five hospitals, our blood center also services the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital and the new Lee Memorial Cancer Center.

Every time you donate blood, you will receive vital health checks at no cost. You will be checked for the following: pulse rate; blood pressure, body temperature, blood type, hemoglobin (iron level); and cholesterol test (non-fasting)

To donate blood you must: weigh at least 115 pounds; be at least 17 years old (16 yeasr old with signed parental consent); be in general good health (no colds, flu, sore throat, etc.) and possess photo ID (with date of birth) if new donor.

Just one single pint of blood can help save the lives of several people. Your donation can be separated into its different components: the platelets may go to a child with leukemia, the plasma to a patient with a clotting problem and the red blood cells to an accident victim.
