“The Crossing Of America” to make stop tomorrow
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is lending its support to a cross-country venture that honors our troops and assists the families of wounded warriors and fallen heroes.
The Crossing of America is a 12,700-mile historic journey across America by two Jeeps. The journey began May 27 at the USS Midway in San Diego Harbor and will arrive at New York Harbor on Sept. 8. The Crossing of America closing ceremony will be held on Sept. 11, to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
The only Southwest Florida stop of the journey will take place on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Iwo Jima Memorial along Veteran’s Parkway in Cape Coral from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. and then at Galeana Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Fort Myers (14375 South Tamiami Trail) from noon until 5:30 pm.
The public is invited to see the Jeeps that are making the cross-country trip and to learn more about the event and its sponsors.
The Spirit of Liberty Foundation organizes events to support our troops, including those wounded and the families of troops killed in combat.
T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) was founded in 1994 by bereaved military families and has helped more than 30,000 surviving family members as well as offering services to assist caregivers supporting families coping with a military death.
