Sheriff’s Office receives statewide recognition for DUI enforcement
When it comes to combating drinking and driving, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is among Florida’s elite. So says the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison, a grant funded program sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Each year LEL conducts the Florida Law Enforcement Challenge and rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in the state.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has been notified that this year it placed in the top three among the state’s largest law enforcement agencies in the category DUI Challenge.
LCSO was lauded for its efforts in reducing alcohol-related crashes and educating the public about the dangers of drinking and driving. The Florida Public Safety Institute noted that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office “made a significant and positive impact in reducing traffic related crashes, injuries and fatalities.”
Sheriff Mike Scott says the statewide recognition underscores his agency’s mission. “We are proud of our traffic and patrol deputies and remain committed to aggressive and sustained traffic enforcement and education,” says Sheriff Scott.
The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge statewide winners will be announced during an awards ceremony in Orlando on July 22.
