LCSO reports on Operation Boat Safe results
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Lee County Law Enforcement Marine Task Force conducted an “Operation Boat Safe” on May 21 and 22, 2011 on Lee County waters.
The United States Coast Guard – Station Fort Myers Beach, United States Customs & Border Protection, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, and Sanibel Police Department participated in the operation which coincided with the kick-off of National Safe Boating week.
The operation resulted in the following arrests:
– Peter Duane Garrigus (DOB: 12/30/64)?5403 SW 3rd Avenue, Cape Coral?Boating under the Influence (BUI)
– Agustin Hernandez-Delgado (DOB: 2/13/62)?3110 SE 16th Place, Cape Coral?Boating under the influence (BUI)
– Michael Wayne Humphrey (DOB: 9/20/60)?5268 Shaddelee Lane, Fort Myers?Boating under the influence (BUI)
– Joel Thomas Russell (DOB: 4/22/63)?225 SE 2nd Street, Cape Coral?Boating under the influence (BUI)
– Alberto Damian Martinez (DOB: 3/31/82)?957 NE Pine Island Lane?Driving with a Revoked Drivers License?(Punta Rassa Boat Ramp)
The operation also resulted in the following:
– 214 vessels stopped for safety equipment inspections?32 boating citations issued?90 written warnings issued
Lee County has nearly 58,000 registered boaters ranking it third in the State of Florida. In addition, Lee County has over 400 square miles of Inland navigable waters patrolled by law enforcement.
