LCSO offers free sports physicals this Saturday

2 min read

During these tough economic times, we all have to make sacrifices. Many families go without health insurance and are forced to give up things in order to pay the bills. A result of this has been more and more kids ending up on the streets rather than taking part in organized sports.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Youth Activities League is pitching in to help out. On Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rotary Park, in conjunction with the Liam J. Perk Family Fun event, three licensed medical providers will be donating their time by providing sports physicals to local youths.

“Our mission is to help children of all ages get involved in activities from traditional sports like basketball, to activities like archery, art and acting,” said Deputy Jeff ?Santella of the SYAL. “Sometimes accomplishing our goals involves granting partial scholarships, offering free or low cost programs; other times it means enlisting solid ? community members to help fill a need.”

The team performing the physicals is a part of a growing group of natural health businesses called Natural Beginnings, dedicated to serving the Lee County Area. The providers include: Dr. David Martin, D.O.M. of Lotus Blossom Clinic, Dr. Brienne Gindele of Gindele Family Chiropractic, and Samantha McCormick, RN, CNM, ARNP or Baby Love Birth Center. “We’ve all made adjustments in our practices to meet the growing needs of our community, this is just another way we can help serve our youth, who are often forgotten or left behind in difficult financial times,” said Dr. David Martin.

No payment is required for any of the physicals, though a $10 donation is appreciated. Funds raised will support programming, camp and tuition for SYAL programs, as well as continued outreach efforts by the Natural Beginnings team. Sports physical forms will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis. Corporate sponsors are appreciated, and all donations are welcomed. Please send all checks, payable to the Sheriff’s Youth Activities League to: 13300-56 S. Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33907
