Governor Scott appoints Alva judge to 20th Judicial Circuit Court
Governor Rick Scott recently announced the appointment of Judge John E. Duryea Jr. of Alva to the Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court.
“With more than 20 years of public service to Southwest Florida, Judge Duryea will be a great asset to the Twentieth Circuit Court,” Governor Scott said. “I am confident he will carefully consider each case that comes before him and serve with dignity and fairness.”
Judge Duryea, 46, has been a Lee County Court Judge since 2003. Previously, he was chief assistant statewide prosecutor with the Office of the Attorney General from 2000 to 2003. He practiced with Conroy, Simberg and Ganon from 1999 to 2000 and was an assistant state attorney with the State Attorney’s Office in the Twentieth Circuit from 1996 to 1999.
In addition, he served as a firefighter and paramedic from 1985 to 1992. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and his law degree from Stetson College of Law.
Judge Duryea will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Lynn Gerald Jr.
