LCSO holds “Chili Cook-Off”
In a few short weeks, the competition heats up for what promises to be a “chili” day at Gulf Coast Town Center. Teams comprised of Lee County Public Safety personnel will compete for bragging rights to the best batch of chili.
The second annual Public Safety Chili Cook-Off runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Gulf Coast Town Center Market Square. For a $1 contribution per sample, members of the general public can taste the chili and vote for the “People’s Choice” winner. And everyone’s a winner because money raised will benefit the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Training Team…allowing members to further their education and training in this important field.
In addition to serving up the best Chili this side of El Paso, there will be plenty of entertainment for the kids. Games and prizes, a bounce house, child fingerprinting and a 911 station will be on site. The public will get a first hand look at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Mobile Communications Command Center. The sheriff’s office will also have displays and demonstrations with K-9, the Bomb Squad, Marine Vessel and Mounted Patrol.
Last year’s Chili Cook-Off raised $1,500 for the Communications Training Team and the goal this year is to top that figure.
