Shadow Wood contributes $123,000 to Habitat for Humanity
Shadow Wood, a golfing community in Bonita Springs, Florida recently held the eighth annual Shadow Wood Golf Tournament to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Lee County. The evening banquet was sponsored by Fine Mark Bank and included a raffle, and live and silent auctions. This community-wide event raised more than $123,000, which will sponsor two more rehabilitated homes for Habitat for Humanity partnering families.
Chairman of the event, Bill Lentz commented, “The reason so many of us pitched in to make this happen is that we believe in the Habitat mission. The families that live in Habitat homes earn them through their hours of service in helping to build homes, the $1,200 in costs they pay at their mortgage closing, and by paying the zero percent interest mortgages they receive. What Habitat for Humanity provides is really a hand up, not a handout. It is events like this, and other volunteer efforts, that make the work Habitat does possible.”
Since 2003, Shadow Wood residents have contributed $960,000 to Habitat for Humanity. These contributions resulted in 17 families living the American dream of homeownership.
Habitat for Humanity is extremely grateful to the members of Shadow Wood community for their hard work and diligence in raising these funds and for their effort in eliminating substandard housing in Lee County.
Habitat for Humanity of Lee County, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides simple, decent housing for families who otherwise could not afford it. It is one of the largest affiliates in the country, and it has provided more than 1,100 families in Lee and Hendry counties the opportunity to own their own home. Through the use of volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, homes are sold to the homeowners at no profit with an interest-free mortgage, making homeownership an affordable reality.
