MRTF: Work In Progress report
The Marine Resources Task Force is pleased to report to the Town Council on the projects it has taken up, progress in that regard and the status of other items that may be of interest to the Town Council. Following is a list and update on each. MRTF welcomes direction from Town Council on any of these issues.
– Recycling Bins at Beach Accesses The Public Works Departments is monitoring the three recycling bins at the Avenue C, Strandview Avenue and Dakota beach accesses for usage. Public Works has provided some intial data and the six-month test will end the last of March.
– Adopt a Beach Program MRTF will be meeting with the Director of Keep Lee County Beautiful program to see if there is a chance to partner or just create our own program.
– Beachscape MRTF has worked on this in the past and will try to restart community interest.
– Distribution plan for “Your guide to Seagrass and it’s importance” Al Durrett has established multiple distribution points and MRTF will continue to help and support this project.
– Publicizing the need to dredge New Pass and Big Carlos Pass MRTF will continue to examine this issue.
In addition, MRTF will have guest speakers at the March and April meetings covering the topics of monitoring water quality, the bird nesting stewardship program and storm water management alternatives for homeowners and condominium owners.
