Fossil show at nature center
The Fossil Club of Lee County presents its annual Fossil Show at the Calusa Nature Center on Saturday, Dec. 4. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12. All kids get a fossil gift!
This is wonderful event for people of all ages. There are fossil exhibits, games, raffles, face paintings, and a Kid’s Dig conducted by the Imaginarium. At 10 a.m., Dr. Charles OConnor will talk about fossils of the huge animals that roamed in Florida over a million years ago, including the giant sloth, glyptodonts, dire wolf, saber-toothed cat, mammoths and mastodons. At 2 p.m., Dr. OConnor will talk about shark evolution and the extinct megalodon shark. The magalodon had teeth that were up to seven inches long and the shark’s body could reach lengths of over 50 feet.
The Show also features several well known fossil dealers offering a wide array of gemstones, rocks and minerals, fossil specimens, old bottles, books, modern and fossil sea shells and fossil design jewelry. There will lots of really big shark teeth!
