The Fourth of July Fireworks display is about a month away, and the FMB?Fireworks Fund Team is still on their toes, holding fund-raisers and benefits all over for the cause.

The Mermaid Lounge and Liquors is eager to get their feet wet in the fireworks fund-raising festivities, kicking off its first FMB Fireworks Fund-Raiser Saturday, June 5, with a Beach Party blow-out.

“This is going to be our first fund-raiser for the fireworks and we’re so excited about it,” said Kathy Van Selow, co-owner of the Mermaid Lounge, along with her husband, Scott Van Selow, and daughter, Valerie Van Selow. “We’re happy to be a part of the Semmer family scene. We just love the fireworks and they always do such a great job.”

During the party, from 1 to 6 p.m., Kathy said there will be plenty of drink specials all day, along with visits from the Bacardi and Cuervo girls, offering a bunch of free promotional products, smiles and samples.

“Andrea from across the street at Silver Sands offered us a one-night stay at her resort to raffle off, and we’ll have all types of other fun items to raffle, too, along with 50/50s and so much more,” Kathy said.

Music by DJ?Mike will fill the air, and the Mermaid will be packed with a wealth of food and snacks to munch on while helping a good cause.

“We’re so happy to just be able to help out as much as we can,” Kathy said.

Collections are still being accepted for those who would like to donate an item to the 50/50s and raffles. Anyone wishing to donate to the cause or to volunteer during the party (selling raffle tickets, running drinks, joining the clean-up crew, etc.) should call Kathy or Scott at 765-9100.
