Already a tasty commodity to the Fort Myers Beach food circuit, the Heavenly Biscuit (110 Mango St.) is adding yet another reason why you should stop into the quaint little cottage eatery, now serving homemade dinner specials five nights a week.

“The island needed a place with some comfort food that wouldn’t break the bank,” said Heather Haywood, owner of the Heavenly Biscuit. “Two people can come in and eat at my place for $20 and it’s good food.”

Prepare to be wined, dined and waited on with “real” plates, metal silverware and a courteous smile. Since first offering dinner about a month ago, Heather said she offers three signature dishes that have gotten lots of attention over the last several weeks: the Cuban, shrimp and grits, and Thai shrimp.

“Right now, we’re really pushing three super, super dishes that you cannot get anywhere else,” she said.

She explains the love that goes into the shop’s freshmade Cubans.

“There’s nothing like this. The cuban sandwich I make my own mojo from scratch and we use real Cuban bread. Our smoked ham is cooked on-site and takes 24 hours. A very good friend of mine has been to Miami, Tampa and la Havana, Cuba, and he said he’s never had a better Cuban.”

The second signature dish is the shrimp and grits, a recipe that’s a good Southern tradition.

“We don’t use any frozen vegetables they’re all cut daily. And our grits aren’t the instant ones. They take about an hour to cook,” she said. “It’s a slightly spicy dish but not too spicy. It’s got all kinds of wonderful veggies and flavors.”

The third dish brings a bit of the Oriental to Fort Myers Beach.

“Our Thai shrimp dish is phenomenal, served with a citrus rice,” Heather said. “It has coconut, almonds, fresh-cut peppers, a bit of curry, some red pepper, it’s just sooo many layers of flavor. It’s delicious.”

Along with the three signature dishes of the Heavenly Biscuit, Heather also offers plenty of other homemade entrees sure to make any appetite salivate.

“Our meatloaf and mashed potatoes are homemade, and we also make a big salad, with salmon, chicken or shrimp, or you can just have it alone,” she said. “All of our meals come with a salad. Everything’s fresh.”

Speaking of fresh, Heather uses only locally caught shrimp, as well as other seafood.

“It’s a small menu but it’s a good one,” she said.

All dinner entrees are $13 or less, so enjoy a big meal on a small budget. And delivery is available, so you can just let your fingers do the talking when you dial the phone to place an order.

As for the rest of the heavenly offerings of the Heavenly Biscuit, Heather’s proud to boast an array of cakes, coffees and sweets for all to indulge on.

“We always have a different kind of cake. We have triple chocolate brownies with peanut butter icing. We’re known for our world-famous cinnamon rolls. Everything gerts a little dollop of whipped cream or ice cream, and it’s a whole different ball game when we do dinner,” she said.
