A fun day at Parrot Key
Sporting 12 creamy flavors of Edy’s ice cream and more, Parrot Key’s all-new Sweets and Treats shop offers an array of indulging snacks to splurge on, whether it’s a hot fudge brownie sundae, slice of keylime pie, mango guava cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, chocolate lava cake, hand-dipped milkshake or just a couple scoops of your fave ice cream.
P.K.’s event coordinator and wedding planner TammySue Hrad said some of the best-selling flavors are rocky road, cookie dough and mint chocolate chip, but other flavors include almond praline, double-fudge brownie, kona coffee, vanilla bean, strawberry cheesecake, butter pecan, and, of course, chocolate.
Choices of cones are a plenty: handmade rolled waffle cones and waffle bowls, dipped in chocolate and nuts if requested. And for the very wee ones out there or just those looking for a snippet of the sweet stuff, baby cones are available too, for just 99 cents.
The rest of the sweets shop prices are very affordable, too, with a single-scoop cone going for $2.99, double scoop for $3.39, triple scoop for $3.79 and so on.
Oh, and about toppings, yeah, there’re plenty. Peanut butter cups, Reese’s Pieces, marshmallows, mini gummi bears, peanuts, granola, and who can forget the chocolate syrup, sprinkles and whipped cream?
Other fun stuff in the new shop are loads of nifty gifts and fun trinkets, like shirts, hats, baby dresses, hot sauce, keychains, magnets, and the all-new tye-dye sweatshirts and tropical hanging parrots. TammySue said she also plans to bring other fun knick knacks into the shop, including coveted shot glasses.
So, whether you’re heading off for a journey on the Pieces of Eight Pirate ship, going for a Segway ride or just browsing with friends and fam nearby, be sure to stop into Parrot Key’s Sweets and Treats for some fun and frills.
Segway tours and more
Parrot Key folks have brought the Segway tours back to the establishment, offering a fun trip around the area while learning lots about the rich history of the place.
“We’ll go by the shrimp boats, under the Sky Bridge, past the Coast Guard station, over the bridge,” said Brad Lewis, general manager of the Main Street munchery. “It’s a great way to learn about the area.”
Oh, and don’t worry if you’ve never operated a Segway. It’s actually very simple, and a one-on-one demonstration takes place before each departure.
The cost to ride is $25 per hour, per adult, and $20 for kids under 14. Reservations are not needed but accepted, and tours are offered all day, all week. Feel free to bring the whole fam or just yourself.
To reserve your spot, call 765-7272.
Customized trip, anyone?
Completing the package of being a one-stop eat-drink-and-be-merry shop, Parrot Key has stationed a tropical hut-styled information booth in the center of its square.
Just stop by to see Dennis Hatton (pictured on phone) or other knowledgeable Beach peeps at the booth, and they’ll take care of booking and customizing your next trip, whether it’s on the Key West Express, a bi-plane ride, sailing tours, pirate cruises, sunset trips and more.
