SeaSide Subs under new ownership, still same great recipes

3 min read

SeaSide Sub Shop & Pizza, 1240 Estero Blvd., has been an island fixture for a while now, but new owners took over the hot spot in October and are ready to serve the masses with their expanded menu and soon-to-come breakfast specialties.

Gretchen Smith, owner, said the menu is the same, “but we’ve made some additions such as pulled pork sliders, pizza burgers, we have chili, we’re oging to be having soups and daily specials.”

The most popular sandwich, she said, is the Italian sub and the Island Cow, “which, the locals all know those two sandwiches very well,” Gretchen said.

The Italian: Black Forest ham, salami, capicola, melted provolone cheese, black olives, green peppers and herb olive oil.

The Island Cow: Roast beef and melted Swiss cheese topped with a garlic aioli.

Other menu offerings include the Sorry Charlie, the Gobbler, the Farmer, Mom’s Meatballs, FMB Filly, Chicken Bacon Ranch Melt, Cheeseburger Sub and Mini Burgers.

All whole sandwiches come with a bag of chips and you can choose between a Kaiser roll, muti-grain, white or whole wheat.

For those who are in the mood for Cuban, try the empanadas, only $2, and check out the salads, soups, chili, pastas, enchiladas, stuffed cabbage and more.

Health conscious diners can check out the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Chicken Chipotle Wrap and others, as well as the “skinny pizza.”

Gretchen laughed when asked why the Mexican Pizza is “skinny,” and said that’s the famous question.

“The girl next door always called it the skinny pizza because it’s on a flour tortilla instead of the pizza crust. We call it the skinny pizza for the health-conscious patron, you get to enjoy more of the toppings without the heavy bread.”

Sides include a tossed salad, chef salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and beans and rice.

And there’s more to come to this menu.

SeaSide Subs is soon to offer a breakfast menu that includes coffee, frozen coffee drinks, milk shakes, muffins, rolls, bagels, egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos.

Until then, the shop is open from noon to 10 p.m. daily. Breakfast starts in January when the shop will open earlier.

“We’re also going to start serving homemade Italian ices,” Gretchen said.

SeaSide Subs is a take-out restaurant but there are some seats outside for patrons to enjoy.

And while some customers take their goodies to the beach to enjoy, Gretchen said, they do a booming delivery business.

SeaSide Subs, which is attached to the Beacon Motel, offers free delivery anywhere on the Beach. Just call them up at 765-SUBS (7827.)

Also, don’t forget, Gretchen said, that every Wednesday is half-off pizza day.

Personal pizzas include French Bread Pizza, Cheesy Garlic Crustini Pizza and, of course, the skinny (Mexican) pizza.

Then, there are quarter slices available or 16-inch pies with all of the traditional toppings available.

Good food at a bargain price on the beach. Can you beat it?

For those hosting a party, you might want to consider SeaSide Subs as a catering option. Gretchen and her crew can do hors d’oeuvres, wine tastings, cheeses, quiche, crudite, dips, hot and cold salads, appetizers, fondue, buffets, pastas, barbecue, dessert and more.

Stop by and check it out!
