Doc Fords, Dixie Fish are skipping the straws
The Town of Fort Myers Beach passed its plastic straw ban last year as a step to reduce microplastic pollution on the island. Now, two businesses across the bridge are jumping on board.
Doc Fords Rum Bar & Grill and sister restaurants Dixie Fish Company and the Beached Whale are abandoning straws all-together, along with Doc Ford’s other locations. Although only the Beached Whale is required to use paper straws, the restaurant’s leadership decided the other locations would jump in voluntarily.
Their drinks will be served sans-straw, and paper straws will be provided upon request.
With the beach’s straw ban, Joe Harrity, advertising manager, said Doc Fords wanted to follow suit.
“It’s going to be a snowball effect, and it helps the environment,” he said. “We think it’s super important.”
