Putt and Pub Crawl raises more than $20,000
It was the 8th annual Putt and Pub Crawl Saturday, and it was the largest turnout yet.
Paula Kiker and Lahaina Realty choose a local charity or organization each year to benefit from the proceeds of the annual beach pub crawl. This year, Friends of Bay Oaks was the beneficiary. Friends president Denise Monahan helped Kiker organize the nine “hole” crawl.
Nine bars and restaurants participated in the golf-themed event: The Cottage/Gulfshore Grill, The Mermaid Lounge, The Salty Crab, La Ola, Pierside Grill, Pete’s Time Out, Yucatan Beach Stand, Fish House and Matanzas On the Bay.
Approximately 55 teams registered for the event, bringing 220 mini-golfers in attendance. Sixty volunteers helped out by managing each “hole.” Monahan said the numbers were still being tallied, but the event has brought in $21,210. After expenses, the event will have raised $16,810 for the Friends group.
This year, the after party was held in John Richard’s parking lot, which he donated for the evening, and Sheena Brook performed for the volunteers and participants.
“We outgrew the restaurants for the afterparty,” Monahan said. “It allowed us to open it up to more golfers and allow the volunteers to come have a good time. That really helped to make it a more inclusive event.”
Awards were given out for creativity and competition. The best dressed team was “Guys and Dolls,” the best hole was The Cottage, and the best team name was “The Tipsy Turtles.”
