Fort Myers Beach organizations, businesses pitch in for Hurricane Harvey relief
For those in the community who want to help victims of Hurricane Harvey, they don’t need to travel to Texas to be of service.
Following the ongoing flooding and storms, multiple local businesses and groups have organized relief efforts and supply drives to aide in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce:
The chamber is hosting a supply drive to send disaster relief items to Texas, in partnership with the Royal Palm Coast Realtor Association.
A collection box has been set up at the Chamber, 1054 5th St., from now until the end of day WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6. The chamber is asking for donations of travel sized adhesive bandage; safety pins; toothbrushes; toothpaste; dental floss; deodorant; body wash/bars of soap; hand sanitizer; disposable razors; shaving cream; combs/brushes; cotton swabs; pocket tissues; lotion; mouthwash and lip balm. Other items include: flashlights with batteries; antibacterial ointment; fleece throws; deck of cards; nail clippers; rain poncho; pens/notepads; socks; sewing kits; hydrocortisone cream; pocket mirror; sunscreen and bug spray.
Salty Crab Bar & Grill:
The Salty Crab will host Lonestar Relief SATURDAY, SEPT. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. In partnership with the Pit Bull Crew, a dog rescue group, the restaurant and bar will have a tent and tables set up to take in donations of nonperishable items, including new and used clothing (all sizes), blankets, pillows, and other household items. They will also be asking for donations of pet food and supplies to aide both the human and four-legged victims of the hurricane. The bar will be offering a drink special for donors.
Captains for Clean Water
Captains for Clean Water is making a supply run to Texas and is collecting items to load up for the trip.
The local nonprofit will be accepting donations at its fishing tournament, The Flats Invitational Redfish Challenge, TODAY (FRIDAY) from noon to 8 p.m. and TOMORROW (SATURDAY) from 8 a.m.to 8 p.m., at The Fathoms Restaurant and Bar, 5785 Cape Harbour Drive, Suite 106, Cape Coral. If you can’t make it to Cape Coral there are several other supply drop-off locations from which Captains for Clean Water will collect needed items before heading to Texas: The Boat Place, 16394 San Carlos Blvd., Fort Myers; Bailey’s General Store, 2477 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel; Garvin Law Firm, 4280 Cleveland Avenue Fort Myers, until 5 p.m. TODAY; and also The Boat Place in Naples and West Wall Fly Shop in Port Charlotte.
Captains for Clean Water asks for these items: cots and bedding; socks; baby wipes and diapers; baby formula and food; tampons and pads; adult diapers; first aid kits; dry dog and cat food; leashes; pet crates; tarps; tooth brushes and paste; Epi pens; resealable bags; bug spray, ponchos; fuel canisters; batteries and phone chargers.
Beach Records:
Beach Records will be donating all profits from sales TOMORROW (SATURDAY) to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The record shop, located in the back of 16120 San Carlos Blvd. Unit 10 B, is open from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday night will feature a live music show from K-Sea and other bands.
