1 min read

Find out about life in Southwest Florida from the 1880’s through the 1960’s.

Robert Ballard, a 5th-generation Florida Cracker, traces his family’s early settlement on ?Cayo Costa and Pine Island Sound. Using old land records, government documents, family letters and pictures, Ballard follows his mother’s family’s arrival in 1887 and describes their life on the islands in Pine Island Sound through the 1960s.

Robert was born in Fort Myers in 1946 and raised in Bokeelia and on a ranch on Pine Island Road. During his teenage years he worked as a ranch hand and a commercial fisherman before starting his career as a draftsman, technical writer and finally as a salesman.
