The Fort Myers Beach Art Association’s fundraiser might have been just for fun, but that didn’t stop its artist from dedicating their full focus on creating a work of art.

Association painters Sue Pink, Cheryl Fausel, Kathleen Taylor and Terry Shattuck tried their hand at a “paint-around” to raise funds for the association’s annual high school scholarships. Each artist sketched out a picture or design onto a canvas and started painting.

But when the 15-minute timer went off, the artists exchanged their canvases with each other. While everyone watched closely, the artists spent an hour rotating paintings, each one different from the next. Each artist had their own unique method and style – Pink brought dollar store bathroom tools, including a roll of toilet paper, a plunger and a bowl brush to add different elements to her piece.

Each woman got to add her own style to each painting until it was complete. The paintings were then auctioned off for the fundraiser.

“It was fun. You never know what’s going to happen,” Shattuck said. “We know we all paint differently, so you just do what you think needs to be done.”

The event raised more than $1,500.
