Residents collaborate to form Friends of Bay Oaks

1 min read

A group is underway to incorporate into a non-profit that could benefit the Bay Oaks Recreational Center and Pool.

About 25 people gathered at Bay Oaks Wednesday, Aug. 17 to talk about goals for the Friends of Bay Oaks 501(c)3. The organization still has to officially incorporate and set a board of directors before it can begin any fundraising initiatives, but the process is already underway, headed by beach resident Denise Monahan.

The formation of the group begins at a time when the Fort Myers Beach Town Council is reviewing the budget and allocations for Bay Oaks.

“Operating cost is covered,” Monahan said. “But by forming the Friends group, we can find out what we can do to help (Bay Oaks) go beyond.”

Attendees suggested local marketing strategies like setting up tables at events to reach out to island residents to boost awareness. Others suggested a website.
