Thefts of beach bags hit beach hard

On Sunday, five separate thefts of beach bags off Fort Myers Beach were reported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

One theft, which took place in the 1700 block of Estero Island, involved a bag that held two Rolex watches valued at $12,000 and $4,000 respectively, a ring valued at $5,000 and a necklace valued at $5,000.

The victims told police they parked and walked down Miramar Street to the beach at around 11:15 a.m. and placed a bag and cooler on the beach before walking to a restaurant to eat lunch. When they returned the items were gone.

Another theft of a bag, reported in the 1000 block of Estero Boulevard, included the loss of $750 cell phone and $650 set of car keys.

In the 1600 block of Estero Boulevard, a theft victim reported the loss of a $315 watch, a $210 wallet and a $200 pair of sunglasses.

Two other thefts reported included minor values.
