Seasonal parking lots get one more year
The few on Fort Myers Beach who operate seasonal parking lots have until Oct. 1 to become permanent lots or not exist at all.
The Town Council on Monday decided to delay the elimination of the seasonal lots after Vice Mayor Dan Andre reported he had visited all the owners.
“They’ve all put in landscaping and all promised to be permanent by next year, so let’s let them stay as is for the season,” Andre said.
The lots will be required to apply for a permit for permanent designation.
The council had been unhappy with the layout and appearance of the seasonal lots, whose standards are not as rigid as those that are permanent.
Town Manager Don Stilwell was happy with the compromise, especially considering the combination of the Estero Boulevard reconstruction and the seasonal arrival of visitors.
“We have an immediate parking problem, so this is good,” he said.
