As of Monday, Dennis Boback, Bruce Butcher, Tracey Gore, Jack Green and Suzanne Katt are the first residents of Fort Myers Beach to file their intent to run for Town Council.

The deadline for petitions to be submitted to the supervisor of elections for certification is noon this coming Monday.

The town will hold a general election on March 15 for council seats No. 1 and No. 2.

Seat No. 1 is currently held by Dan Andre, who is eligible to run for a second term. He has yet to give notice of his intentions.

Seat No. 2 is held by Alan Mandel who is in his second term and is ineligible to run for a third term.

Candidates can qualify by the petition method or by paying the filing fee. Should candidates choose to qualify by petition, they must obtain petitions of at least 1 percent of registered voters within the town’s jurisdiction (51 certified petitions). Otherwise, the filing fee is $576 (4 percent of the annual salary of $14,400).
