Sheriff’s Office: Man Goes To the Bar, Neglects Child
On Friday, July 10, 2009, at approximately 9:59 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Americinn Hotel, located at 28600 Trails Edge Boulevard, Bonita Springs. The call stated that a young child had been left unattended and had been wandering around the hotel property for at least a half hour. Further investigation revealed the child had been left alone at the hotel by a caretaker, officials said.
Due to the nature of the situation, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Investigation Unit responded to assume the investigation. Detectives located the child and were then able to locate the vehicle of the caretaker, identified as Dusty Krogman (DOB 10/5/85), in the hotel parking lot. Investigators made contact with Krogman, who then came back to the hotel about forty-five minutes later. Investigators learned that Krogman left the victim alone at the hotel while he went to Fort Myers Beach to have some drinks with friends, officials said.
Based on the facts gathered during the investigation, Krogman was arrested and charged with one count of Child Neglect Without Great Harm and one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Krogman’s last known address is listed as 207 W Market Street, Mendon, Ohio 45862.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified and responded to the scene. The victim in this case was placed in the temporary custody of a caretaker until family members can respond.
