A break in a main sewer line, which was reported near the corner of San Carlos Boulevard and Main Street yesterday and prompting workers from Lee County Utilites to begin preparation for repair, has now caused Main Street to be closed off at the Beach Observer/Beach Bulletin parking lot near San Carlos Boulevard.

Yesterday, Patty DiPibro, spokesperson for Lee County Utilities, said: “We are in the process of mobilizing our crew and getting everything we need to take out the pipe and look at the scenario and fix it.”

DiPibro said that the utility crew which began tearing up the ground to find the broken pipe must have struck a pipe while digging, causing the whole area to be closed off and major work to be done. The pipe supposedly comes down Main Street and lead to the Fort Myers Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant on Pine Ridge Road.

The crew is expected to be working on the project all day Friday.
