Landscape workshops on tap this week for Mound House parking area
Landscape experts will begin getting feedback from Fort Myers Beach residents on how to integrate a parking area on Connecticut Street to support the Mound House, according to Theresa Schober, Director of the Town’s oldest landmark.
The Town of Fort Myers Beach hired EDAW, Inc., a landscape architect company specializing in historical landscaping, to come up for a plan for the Mound House grounds and recently extended that contract to include a parking area proposed for 216 Connecticut Street. The town acquired this lot in 2003 with the primary intention to provide parking for the Mound House in a way that is sensitive and aesthetically pleasing to the neighborhood.
Landscape architects David Sacks and Gustavo Santana arrive Tuesday for an intensive three-day workshop. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning are intended for stakeholder interviews with Town Council and neighboring residents. The Cultural and Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board (CELCAB) is holding a public meeting on Wednesday in FMB Town Council chambers. The landscape architects will accept feedback from Fort Myers Beach residents beginning at 3:30 p.m. to help explore options for this parcel.
Once all input is received, the landscape architects will come up with alternative plans that incorporate many of the ideas from the workshops and are consistent with the town’s Land Development Code. The alternative drawings produced from this process will be present at a subsequent workshop. The final design drawings, once approved, will assist with fundraising to support the property improvements.
