Civic group seeks sponsors and floats for parade

2 min read

The Fort Myers Beach Civic Association’s second annual Fourth of July parade is less than two weeks away.

To join the parade, call Lee Melsek at 470-3407 or Dennis Boback at 462-8798. The entry fee for non-profit organizations is $20 and $40 for businesses.

The Civic Association is also accepting donations to help pay for parade expenses this year. You can be a “Friend of the Fourth of July Parade” for whatever you can donate.

So far, business sponsors include The Surf Club, The Beached Whale, Pink Shell Resort, Doc Ford’s, The Beach Observer and Charlie’s Boathouse. If you’d like to add your business as a sponsor, call the numbers given above. You’ll get your business name on the parade t-shirts and tank tops.

“Friends of the Fourth of July Parade” include Saltwater Pro Shop, Terra Nostra Italian Restaurant and Tropics Bar and Grill. All sponsors will be in all pre- and post-parade stories in Tidelines, the Beach Observer and The News-Press.

The inaugural parade last year had 58 entries and is looking for even more this year. So come on, dress up the car, truck, boat or even bikes and get in the parade.

Remember on July 4, the Mantazas Pass bridge is expected to be closed from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; the parade begins at 10 a.m.; and the Independence Day celebration will be capped off by a fireworks show just after dark off the pier. It’s Southwest Florida’s most spectacular fireworks shows and has been a big hit since the 1950s.
