Shamrock will re-open under new management

After a short period of repairs and renovations, the Shamrock Irish Pub will reopen this weekend under new General Manger Mike Hotz. The pub closed Saturday night when former GM Clarke Young left the place in a dishonest, destructive and vindictive manner, according to owner Mike Von Plinsky.

Clarke Young, who had been leasing the business from Von Plinsky, misinformed Beach Bulletin Editor Melissa Schneider about the pub closing for good and in referring to himself as the owner. The erroneous story of the pub closing was in the May 22 Bulletin.

“Hotz is a well-known, respected and liked member of the Beach neighborhood,” said Von Plinsky. “He approached me to show his interest in being the next tenant and things quickly fell in place. Youngs had already given us his 30-day notice to terminate his lease early, which we accepted.

But, despite even giving Youngs an extra period of time to allow him to do a final party on Saturday of the Holiday weekend, he decided to leave in the middle of the night after his party in a very dishonest, destructive and vindictive manner.”

After cleaning up the mess, Hotz has begun renovation projects.

“He’s laid a new floor, doing new paint and replacing the ancient bar beer coolers with ice troughs,” said Von Plinsky. “He’s working with our beer distributors to replace the entire set of wall neons and signs taken by Youngs, who even took old signs that had been in the pub since I bought it five years ago. And, we’re finally re-grading the parking lot to get rid of ‘Lake Shamrock’ and the other big holes in the lot.”
