The VOICES of Mobile, a Christian vocal ensemble that has played at the White House, will be in Fort Myers Sunday, May 17, for a special concert at First Baptist Church of Fort Myers at 1735 Jackson St.

The concert is planned for 10:30 a.m., as part of the church’s regular Sunday worship service, according to the Rev. John Daugherty. There is no additional charge for the concert.

“We feel very fortunate to attract this nationally recognized singing group that includes 16 of the most talented collegiate young professional musicians in America,” Rev. Daugherty said.

VOICES of Mobile consists of eight women and eight men who represent the University of Mobile in Mobile, Ala. The group presents more than 100 concerts throughout the United States each year and has performed at The White House during four different administrations.

VOICES of Mobile, which plays contemporary Christian and secular music, has recorded two CDs and has been featured on four DVDs. They will make their first visit to the Middle East in June to appear before 8,000 American religious leaders in Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Paris. A highlight of the trip will be a concert at the Notre Dame Cathedral.

VOICES of Mobile is among 21 performing ensembles from the University of Mobile’s Center for Performing Arts. More than 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled at the University of Mobile, a private Christian university affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention.

First Baptist Church of Fort Myers is one of the area’s oldest churches and was founded in 1892. Services are offered at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays with Bible Study at 9 a.m., and at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
